Rourkela Steel Plant joins hands with Akshaya Patra Foundation


New year bought a new development between Rourkela Steel Plant and The Akshaya Patra Foundation. As a part of CSR initiatives Rourkela Steel Plant has joined hands with Akshaya Patra. This development is towards providing mid-day meal to about 45000 school students in Rourkela Municipality area along with Lathikata and Bisra Blocks.

P.K Pradhan- GM (TA & CSR) Rourkela Steel Plant and Chanchalapathi Dasa- Vice Chairman, The Akshaya Patra Foundation signed the agreement of this new development in the due presence of G.S Prasad- CEO, Rourkela Steel Plant.

For the smooth running of the project, a centralized kitchen will be built in Rourkela. This kitchen will have the capacity of cooking 50,000 meals on a daily basis. It will be a replica of existing kitchen model with the assurance of keeping intact the hygiene, nutrition and freshness of every meal. 20 custom built vehicles to keep the food hot and fresh will transport the food to the schools.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is already operating similar kitchens for the mid-day meal programme in 9 states of India benefiting millions of children. This new development is a noteworthy one in itself.
