Akshaya Patra - Celebrating International Girl Child Day on Today, Oct 11,2012

Celebrating International Girl Child Day , Today, Oct 11,2012.

Safa Farooq  is a grade 2 student at the Government Higher Primary School in Bengre Kasba located in the city of Mangalore. She eagerly waits for the mid day meal served at the school every day.

Her mother shares “Considering the family’s economic condition the mid day meal is a blessing for Safa. The child often talks about the variety in the menu. By her explanations, we know that she likes the Payasam and the Pulao the most. Not even once has she complained about the food.”

Safa is too young to understand the family’s economic condition or the impact of the mid day meal on her health. But the smiles, healthy features, and her enthusiasm to attend school, are what stands as a testimony to the success of mid day meals by Akshaya Patra.

  2. Girl Child: Girl Child has to function also as a woman, wife, and mother to fulfill her role as a woman member of the society. A single girl child need not lose her grace of a woman, nor her properties that fulfill her role as a female partner in courtship, romance and as a prospective bride. When she gets married she should not lose her membership and her obligations in her parents' household.

Sure we contribute and support for Akshayapatra foundation

    1. Yes Rupom,

Thanks for interesting know about the Akshaya Patra Foundation.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation, NGO in India, runs one of the worlds largest mid day meal program. We distribute freshly cooked, healthy meals daily to 1.3 million underprivileged children in 9,000 government schools through 20 kitchens in 10 states across India. Built on a public-private partnership, Akshaya Patra combines good management, innovative technology and smart engineering to deliver school lunch at a minimal cost.

The program started in 2000 by feeding 1,500 children from a temporary kitchen in Bangalore, India; which has grown in length and breadth and come a long way to a day when we serve over a billion meals.

Akshaya Patra partnered with the Karnataka government in 2003 to act as one of the implementing arms of the government in many regions. It now works with central and state governments in 10 states viz… Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chattisgarh, Gujarat, New Delhi, Orissa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh

It costs Rs. 675 to feed a child daily for the entire school year due to government subsidy and provision of grains. For many of the children this is their only complete meal for the day. This gives them an incentive to come to school, stay in school and provides them with the necessary nutrients becoming food for education.
