Focussing on the Joy of Giving Week, The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Hyderabad recently organised 'A student for a student' campaign. This campaign mainly aimed at creating awareness among the school students about the importance of mid day meal in Government schools. Akshaya Patra is a non-profit organisation implementing the mid-day meal scheme in Hyderabad and 19 other locations across 9 states of India. The campaign of this non-profit for children was well supported by Indus International School, Hyderabad (IISH).
As a part of the school’s annual social involvement initiative called INSIGNIA, the students of Standard XI were able to raise a sum of Rs. 90,000 on a single day. This amount has the potential to feed 120 beneficiaries of mid-day meal. During this annual event, this group of students also sensitised the visitors about Akshaya Patra and its cause through the medium of a presentation. Omkar Joshi, the Principal of Indus International School, highlighted the importance of today’s youth being socially responsible and hence the effort to bring in social involvement initiatives in the curriculum of the school and engaging students in a global citizenship manner.
The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of the non-profit organizations in Hyderabad working towards providing mid-day meal in Government schools. Currently, 54,849 children from 454 Government schools are being benefitted by this NGO in Hyderabad. A total of 60,098 beneficiaries are fed across Andhra Pradesh by Akshaya Patra every day.
