In what is called an exemplary development between the Government and The Akshaya Patra Foundation, the Uttar Pradesh State Government has allotted land and agreed to pay the cost of the meals as per the guidelines of the Mid Day Meal Scheme.  At a recent event, the UP Chief Minister, Akhilesh Yadav laid the foundation stone for Akshaya Patra’s kitchen in Lucknow. This move was welcomed and the event was attended by several members of the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet, senior bureaucrats, and officials of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme.  The Minister of Basic Education also attended the function.

Akhilesh Yadav, UP CM said during the occasion that Akshaya Patra was chosen for this significant initiative because of its ability to implement the Mid Day Meal Programme in an efficient manner. Mentioning about his Vrindavan kitchen visit in September 2012, he said that he was very impressed by the operational process carried out to prepare the Mid Day Meals. He also assured all support by the state government to Akshaya Patra for expanding its reach to other districts like Kannauj, Varanasi, Kanpur and Agra. Adding on to the support assured by Akhilesh Yadav, the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Jawed Usmani said this development is a perfect example of Public-Private Partnership.
