The vital combination of food and education has led to the many success stories of the Public Examination. Education is significant to uplift the society to make it better and more conducive for all sections of the society. But, it is also important to note that without food the stomach will not allow the mind to learn. This fact has been realized by The Akshaya Patra Foundation 12 years ago. It began its initiative of implementing the mid-day meal programme in Bangalore in June 2000. The cause of the Foundation was well received by the schools and children. This motivated Akshaya Patra to move beyond Bangalore.
The Foundation directs its entire works towards its vision of “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger”. The result of it is seen in the recent scorecard of the Public Examination. Akshaya Patra feeds 1.3 million children in more than 9000 Government schools every day across India. The announcement of Public Examination brought laurels to the efforts of the children, teachers and the Foundation too.
Here is the success story of a student from Corporation School, Srirampuram, Bangalore. Ramya A successfully completed her 10th Standard Public Examination with an excellent score of 95.04%. She aspires to pursue her career as a Chartered Accountant. Reading and singing are her interests and she derives inspiration from the famous historical figure-Rani Lakshmi Bai. An easy going yet planned student, Ramya followed a learning schedule to prepare for her exams. A beneficiary of Akshaya Patra’s mid day meal programme, Ramya says her favourite dish is Khara Pongal among all the other dishes served as a part of the Mid Day Meal menu.
Ramya is just one of the many children who come from humble backgrounds and dream of achieving big in life. The only thing these children require is opportunity.
