Karnataka NGO helps feed the children in Bangalore

It is with great joy that The Akshaya Patra Foundation helps to feed the children in Bangalore through the mid-day meal scheme. The Karnataka NGO headquartered in Bangalore, has kitchens in 20 locations across 9 states providing food to 10,050 government schools in India.

The Akshaya Patra kitchen Bangalore has two centralised units in the city, one at H.K Hill and the other at Vasanthapura (V.K Hill). Together these two kitchens feed the children in Bangalore to the tune of 184,530 children across 1055 government schools in Bangalore every day.

The H.K Hill Akshaya Patra Kitchen Bangalore was started in June 2000, and was the first Akshaya Patra kitchen across the country. This ISO 22000:2005 certified kitchen unit manages t0 feed the children in Bangalore up to 85,204 children across 487 schools. The kitchen also comes equipped with 35 custom-designed meal distribution vehicles which deliver the cooked mid-day meals to the beneficiary schools. With the launch of this kitchen, this Karnataka NGO marked the beginning of change to many children’s lives across the state.

Following through with its endeavor to feed the children in Bangalore, the Vasanthapura (V.K Hill) kitchen was launched in July 2007. This unit of the Karnataka NGO feeds 99,326 children across 568 government schools every day. This Akshaya Patra kitchen Bangalore too is ISO 22000:2005 certified with 35 custom-made meal distribution vehicles which deliver the cooked mid-day meals to the beneficiary schools.

This Karnataka NGO is constantly innovating to improve its system to feed the children in Bangalore. One significant contribution of the V.K Hill Akshaya Patra kitchen Bangalore was the food lab that was introduced there as a pilot project. Currently the raw material analysis of pulses, spices, vegetable oils, ghee and flour are being undertaken to check for adulteration and coloring agents.

Aside from this, the V.K Hill Akshaya Patra kitchen Bangalore saw the successful implementation of a biogas plant. This Karnataka NGO is determined to adopt such eco-friendly measures across its kitchens in the bid to feed the children in Bangalore.

This Karnataka NGO has transformed the lives of many children in the state, and has been proud to witness many success stories. By focusing on the need to feed the children in Bangalore, Akshaya Patra has given children an incentive to return to school, get an education and fulfill their potential. The Akshaya Patra kitchen Bangalore has also given others a new opportunity in life. It has created employment for many, thereby giving new hope in the lives of the old and young of the state.
Aside from the Akshaya Patra kitchen Bangalore, this Karnataka NGO has also set up other kitchens in Bellary, Hubli, Mangalore and Mysore across the state.
