Akshaya Patra is an Indian charity started in June 2000 in Bangalore, Karnataka. Though the principle cause of this charity is to implement the mid-day meal programme in Government schools it lays equal importance to education.

Due to this reason this charity makes it a point to expand its operations in a strategic manner so that once it starts feeding in a new location it should be able to sustain operations in existing locations as well as the new one. This charity steers all its efforts towards eliminating hunger and illiteracy. It also provides a platform for its supporters to support child education through food. 

This Indian NGO implements the mid-day meal programme in 20 locations covering the states of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. By supporting a child through this NGO one can gift the child the goodness of food and education. 

Mid-day meal scheme has seen significant impact on its beneficiaries and hence the Government too is in favour of increased community participation so as to be able to reach the grass root level of the society.
