Akshaya Patra providing nutritious food for children India

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a NGO in India that provides mid-day meals to around 1.39 million children pursuing their studies in over 10,600 Government schools. The mission of providing nutritious food for children began way back in June 2000. Akshaya Patra since then has been a subject of study by various national and international organisations and universities. In a recent study conducted by a student group from School of Social and Political Sciences, University of Lisbon, Akshaya Patra was chosen as an organisation for their curriculum research project titled ‘India: Domestic and International Political Agenda— an explanatory approach to a Chaos Theory for International Politics: India and the Butterfly Effect’.

This research project gave The Akshaya Patra Foundation a chance to represent the country on the grounds of secularism, as it provides mid-day meals for millions of children with the quality of being consumable universally irrespective of any caste or creed. By providing this nutritious food for children, the NGO aims at countering classroom hunger and illiteracy and bring in social equity among children of varied backgrounds. The Akshaya Patra Foundation under the aegis of Central Government and various State Governments implement the mid-day meal programme in nine states of India.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation looks at strategically increasing its operational locations in order to benefit more and more children. With the mission of feeding 5 million children by 2020 and sustaining its impact on existing beneficiaries, the NGO steers its activities towards achieving the vision of “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.” Know more about:
