NGO Blog Features Gururaj Deshpande and his Philanthropic bent

The recent Akshaya Patra Foundation’s NGO blog featured Gururaj Deshpande following a feature article by Forbes India. Deshpande is popularly known as ‘Desh’ Deshpande. A philanthropist and entrepreneur, he is well known for his Deshpande Foundation and for his appointment to the Co-Chairmanship of the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship by U.S. President Barack Obama, amongst other significant achievements.

The NGO blog brings to light that Deshpande’s approach toward philanthropy is much the same as toward entrepreneurship. In 2008 Deshpande took on the role as a Chairman of Akshaya Patra’s fundraising wing in the U.S.A. The Hubli kitchen of Akshaya Patra NGO organisation was a joint philanthropic effort of Deshpande and N.R. Narayana Murthy who is incidentally Deshpande’s brother-in-law. Deshpande does not contribute fund toward operational cost of any kitchen and as a true entrepreneur’s approach, Deshpande strongly believes that each kitchen of the NGO organisation  should be self-sufficient.

Deshpande also reveals that 30 years of entrepreneurial experience has enabled him to have the same outlook toward any philanthropic activities. Read the complete NGO blog at Gururaj Deshpande Speaks to Forbes India and the complete Forbes India coverage at
