The Akshaya Patra Foundation is a charitable trust in Bangalore that
provides food for education to over 1.4 million children across India on every
school day. By fighting malnutrition through food for hungry children are given a chance at a better future with
this mid-day meal programme. Today the organisation provides this nutritious
food through its 24 kitchen units located across 10 states of India and feeding
10,770 Government and Government aided schools across the country. This vision
of this organisation is that ‘No child in India shall be deprived of education
because of hunger’ and the mission is to feed 5 million children by 2020. In
order to fulfil this mission, the wholehearted involvement of the community is
required. The Foundation gets a great deal of support from the Government of
India and corporates in implementing this programme, as well as generous
members of society. There are many times when giving people donate in memory of their loved ones
and through this gesture help feed a hungry child in India.
This charitable trust in Bangalore was
started in the year 2000 feeding just 1,500 children across 5 schools in the
area. The organisation decided to provide the meals to underserved children so
that they are not forced to choose between earning food to survive, and getting
educated. Many times, children who enjoy going to school to study are forced to
drop out so that they can assist their parents in earning enough money to keep the
family afloat. Knowing that by providing food for hungry children would have
the option of continuing with their education and one day escaping from their
cycle of hunger and poverty. Over the years the Foundation has helped many
children who have turned their lives around, and gone ahead in search of their
dreams. For those who donate in memory of their parents, siblings, friends and
other loved ones, this is a way to keep their memories alive and also have a
lasting impact on a child’s life.
This charitable trust in Bangalore has
six centres in the state of Karnataka, and many others across the country. The
organisation follows two kitchen models while cooking the wholesome meals for
students. The two kinds of kitchen models are centralised and decentralised. By
using the centralised kitchens to provide food for hunger children are able to
enjoy the delicious meals in large amounts, and with great consistency of hygiene
and quality. Due the mechanised nature of the kitchens, there is very little
human interaction with the food and therefore very little risk of contamination
or loss of quality. These kitchens are also capable of producing food in very
large amounts in a short amount of time. Often people donate in memory of loved ones and
contribute a meal delivery van or some other means of assisting the programme in
its work.
If you desire to help provide food for hungry
children will be very grateful. Donate now for the Akshaya Patra Charity and

This is indeed commendable! After all, feeding hungry children whose parents have no means to support them is noble. Many a charity trust in Bangalore is doing excellent work when it comes to education, healthcare, women empowerment and creating awareness about these in rural areas. Good Job!
