NGO in Orissa feeds hungry bellies with the mid day meal

As a non profit organization in India, The Akshaya Patra Foundation is running the mid day meal programme in 23 locations across 10 states of India. One of the states is Orissa. This non profit organization in India started its operations as an NGO in Orissa in June 2006 by setting up a kitchen in Puri. As an implementing partner of the mid day meal programme, there is a steady support from the Government of India, the various State Governments and associated organisations. Which helps this NGO in Orissa immensely in expanding its reach to other locations of the state in order to feed more children with mid day meal. As an NGO in Orissa the organisation runs the mid day meal programme at four locations in the state.

This non profit organization in India runs kitchens at Puri, Nayagarh, Rourkela and Cuttack in Orissa. Across these four kitchens, the Foundation serves the mid day meal to 125,242 children across 1,461 government schools in the state.

Akshaya Patra as a non profit organization in India currently feeds 1.4 million children across 10,661 schools every day. The Foundation has accomplished this figure by working with two kinds of kitchen models to cook the mid day meal. The Centralised kitchen is a highly mechanised, efficient kitchen model which is capable of large scale cooking. The Decentralised kitchens are set up in remote areas of the country where infrastructure and connectivity are limited. These kitchens are run by local women's Self Help Groups (SHGs) under the guidance of Akshaya Patra personnel. The NGO in Orissa currently runs three centralised and one decentralised kitchen (Nayagarh).

In 2006 the non profit organization in India first established its base in Orissa with the centralised Puri kitchen which serves the mid day meal to 55,835 children every day. The NGO in Orissa then started its next venture in 2007, and opened a set of decentralised kitchen units at Nayagarh, which feeds 24,580 children the mid-day meal from this location every day. In 2013 the non profit organization in India opened the centralised Rourkela kitchen feeding 40,827 children every day, and in 2014 the NGO in Orissa opened its latest kitchen in the state at Cuttack feeding 4,000 children a day with the expectation of expanding operations.

The mid day meal programme run by the Foundation seeks to give the children of India the nutrition they need, as well as give them the incentive they need to attend school regularly. This non profit organization in India aims to increase its operations all over the country so that it can fulfil its mission of feeding 5 million children by 2020. The development of this NGO in Orissa with the upcoming Bhubaneswar kitchen is proof of the commitment of the organisation towards this cause.

  1. It is good to see that CSR activities are gaining popularity in India as well. Also several CSR foundations in India are coming together to help the unprivileged children.
    Keep sharing more about this.
