The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of the most well-known NGOs in India. It started as a NGO in Bangalore in 2000 and gradually expanded its operations in other parts of the country. The Foundation's vision statement clearly spells out its purpose, "No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger." It indicates that this NGO in India not only wants to provide free school meal rather it wants to harness the potential of food in strengthening education. It is seen that India is a young country in terms of average age of its population yet it is one of the poorest when it comes to literacy rate and malnutrition. Thus it is an attempt by this NGO in India to counter classroom hunger, malnutrition and illiteracy through providing healthy, nutritious and hygienic meal to the children in Government schools.
At the outset when Akshaya Patra began serving as a NGO in Bangalore, it did encounter certain difficulties like vessels to pack the food, transportation of the cooked food and the like. But, coming together of various helping hands aided Akshaya Patra to move ahead with the free school meal programme. Soon the need of this NGO in Bangalore was felt largely as more and more schools in an around the city requested for the supply of mid-day meal to their respective schools. This was the point where the actual significance of the programme surfaced. It was also a deciding factor for the NGO to expand to other locations. Gradually, Akshaya Patra expanded its operation to other parts of Karnataka and eventually to other states of India.
Thus, from being a NGO in Bangalore, it became known as a NGO in India. During the course of its journey, it came across numerous generous donors who donated to NGO and helped in expansion of its service thereby directly impacting the lives millions of children. With each decision of a donor to donate to NGO, a child's dreams and aspirations get lived. With Akshaya Patra a donor can positively alter a child's life at just Rs. 750. The effective and strategic programme management conducted by this NGO in India allows it to utilise Rs. 750 to feed one child for one whole year. They seem to be doing really good work. There are many such charitable organizations involved in serving the needs of the destitute and poor. While some cater to children's education, some serve healthcare needs and others are involved in infrastructural activities. The best NGOs in Bangalore combine all these and serve the needs of the poor and destitute and work towards collective progress.
ReplyDeleteEducation is the key to progress and if we are to develop as a society, we must achieve progress by means of education. It is after all providing a lifeline to someone and help them make a life for themselves. There are many NGOs in Bangalore for children who take care of education and welfare for destitute children and this is truly appreciable. Wish more volunteers would come forward and lend their support to such noble causes.
