Akshaya Patra, a NGO in Visakhapatnam

The Akshaya Patra Foundation operates as a NGO in Visakhapatnam that implements the mid-day meal programme. Every day it feeds more than five thousand children across seven Government schools. Akshaya Patra started its operations as a NGO in Visakhapatnam since October 2008 with a centralised kitchen facility.

Recently the State Government of Andhra Pradesh organised a week long awareness programme titled Badi Pilustondi. This programme spread awareness about the importance of education. It motivated the parents to enrol and send their children to school. It also assured the gathering of implementing the Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act and ensured 100% enrolment of children to school countering any dropout.
The programme was well attended by several Government schools in Visakhapatnam along with their teaching faculty and local dignitaries. All the participants were served Akshaya Patra meal at the end of the programme. The high level of quality, hygiene and taste maintained by this NGO in Visakhapatnam during the implementation of the mid-day meal programme was appreciated by one and all.

As a mark of appreciation to the efforts of this NGO in Visakhapatnam the students of the Gajuwaka High School dedicated a song based on the Foundation.  Click here to listen to the song.
