The Akshaya Patra Foundation with its each new kitchen is strategically moving towards its mission of feeding 5 million children by 2020. Recently, the Foundation saw two new Akshaya Patra kitchens one each in Odisha and Gujarat. The NGO in Odisha has been functioning since June 2006 and with the Cuttack kitchen there are now four Akshaya Patra kitchens in Odisha. Akshaya Patra also started its kitchen in Ahmedabad.
With the Akshaya Patra kitchen in Cuttack, Akshaya Patra now has a total of 21 centralised kitchens. The coming together of primary donor The Kusuma Foundation with RC Infinity Foundation (Kolkata), LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation, NALCO, and the Odisha Mining Corporation were the driving force behind this kitchen. This Akshaya Patra kitchen is fitted with state-of-the-art equipment thereby aiding in large scale cooking. Currently feeding 45,000 children across 190 schools, this kitchen of the NGO in Odisha intends to further expand its feeding capacity in the near future.
In another recent development Akshaya Patra expanded its base as a NGO in Ahmedabad. The newly opened Akshaya Patra kitchen in Ahmedabad will replace the Gandhinagar kitchen of Akshaya Patra. This Akshaya Patra kitchen is one of the largest in India which is spread over two acres of land. This Akshaya Patra kitchen is a fully automated facility employing the gravity-flow mechanism. It is also equipped with a bakery section. With this facility, Akshaya Patra as a NGO in Ahmedabad will be able to feed 121,508 children across 666 schools in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar area. with a capacity to cook up to 200,000 meals in five hours.
The Hans Foundation is the primary sponsor of this Akshaya Patra kitchen. It is co-sponsored by the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), Chimanlal Agrawal & Family, and Nandlal Agrawal & Family.
With the introduction of these two Akshaya Patra kitchens, the NGO has taken strategic stride towards its mission of feeding 5 million children by 2020 along with stepping towards realising its vision of “No child in India shall be deprived of education because of hunger.” Donate online and support the cause.
