Akshaya Patra implementing mid-day meal scheme in Gujarat

Since June 2007, The Akshaya Patra Foundation has been implementing the mid-day meal scheme in Gujarat. It began by feeding Government school children of Gandhinagar. Gradually realising the need and importance of the programme, it expanded its operation in Vadodara and Surat. As a NGO in Gujarat, Akshaya Patra caters to 400,158 children covering 1,653 Government schools every day. All the three locations operate centralised kitchen format to prepare the mid-day meals. The location-wise reach of Akshaya Patra is: 121,508 children in 666 Gandhinagar schools; 113,593 children across 616 Vadodara schools and 165,057 children across 371 schools in Surat.

Apart from implementing the mid-day meal scheme in Gujarat, Akshaya Patra also implements the programme in nine other states namely: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. In total, this Indian NGO feeds 1.39 million children every day. Gujarat has the second highest beneficiary base after Karnataka. Each beneficiary of the mid-day meal programme has his or her own unique story to share and the same holds true for the beneficiaries of the mid-day meal in Gujarat. These children hail from economically challenged background and have witnessed hardships at tender ages. Yet, the spirit of achieving high and determination to breakthrough all odds to attain their goal is a commendable trait among the beneficiaries. It becomes evident that these children do not require any sympathy; they just look forward to a little support and love from the society. Understanding the potential of community support in providing one wholesome meal per day for the needy children Akshaya Patra has incorporated the 'online donation charity platform'. This online donation charity platform provides donors the ease of accessibility and comfort of time and space for contributing charity towards the cause.
