On a regular basis, Akshaya Patra kitchens keep upgrading the facilities for better operations and improved food safety measures. Recently, the NGO in Mangalore upgraded its kitchen facility with an aim to increase its capacity of feeding more children. This NGO in Mangalore currently provides mid-day meals to children in more than 140 Government schools. With the recent renovation the Mangalore kitchen has improved automation of the production and post-production processes. This has also led to further conformation to national standards pertaining to food safety.
The opening ceremony of the renovated kitchen was also accompanied by flagging off of a new vehicle for delivering mid-day meals. The flag off was done by Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment - B Ramanath Rai. The day also saw awarding of scholarships to the top ten meritorious beneficiaries of this NGO in Mangalore.
The Mangalore Akshaya Patra kitchen is one of the 20 centralised kitchens of the Foundation. It was established in December 2004 and since then has strategically increased its beneficiary base. As recognition, this NGO in Mangalore received a letter from Hayatul Islam HPS School, where the Head Master of the school personally appreciated the mission and wholeheartedly thanked the Foundation for its service. This also acts as a testimony to the mid-day meal programme’s objective of improving socialisation among castes.
