Akshaya Patra inaugurates its 23rd Kitchen in Cuttack

In the mission to benefit more and more children, The Akshaya Patra Foundation inaugurated its 23rd kitchen unit in Cuttack, Odisha. With this the count of Akshaya Patra kitchen locations in Odisha moves up to four. Prominent dignitaries - Naveen Patnaik, Honourable Chief Minister of Odisha; General Surat Singh Sandhu - Chairman of The Kusuma Foundation; and Pankaj Vinayak Sharma - Country Leader of The Kusuma Foundation in the ceremony along with The Akshaya Patra Foundation representatives were present at the inaugural ceremony.

This Akshaya Patra kitchen is a centralised kitchen unit. The initial projection of this unit is to provide mid-day meal to approximately 45,000 children by covering 190 Government schools. In the near future, by around 2015, this Akshaya Patra kitchen unit is expected to increase its cooking capacity to 100,000 mid-day meals per day. This new unit too is equipped with state-of-the-art technology like the existing Akshaya Patra kitchens.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation wholeheartedly thanks The Kusuma Trust (UK) - the primary donor for this project for their generous contribution, along with RC Infinity Foundation (Kolkata), LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation, Odisha Mining Corporation and NALCO. This significant development yet again marks the importance of society’s involvement to bring about sustainable change. This was also remarkable because with this Akshaya Patra too took a step closer towards feeding mid-day meals to 5 million children by 2020.
