Bill Clinton visits The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Jaipur

During his recent tour to India, Ex-President of the United States of America visited The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Jaipur. Clinton visited Akshaya Patra’s kitchen that is of centralised model in Jaipur. Clinton was overwhelmed to witness the kitchen process, quantity of food cooked and maintenance of high quality, safety and hygiene standards in implementing the mid-day meal programme. He was awestruck seeing the roti making machine in Akshaya Patra kitchen. In appreciation to the effort of implementing the mid-day meal programme by The Akshaya Patra Foundation he said, “Such huge quantity of food prepared and served in efficient, healthy and sanitary manner is unbelievable.” Clinton also visited the Government School in Sanganer, one of the beneficiary schools of The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Jaipur. The school students presented a cultural programme in honour of him and also interacted with the Former President with much delight. During the school visit he also served food to the children.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation in Jaipur currently serves more than 92,000 children under the mid-day meal programme covering more than 1,000 Government schools. Clinton’s visit to Akshaya Patra kitchen  and beneficiary school was also intended to raise awareness and encourage corporate houses and businesses under the Clinton Global Initiative to fund and support Akshaya Patra’s effort in implementing the mid-day meal programme. Clinton further acknowledged and encouraged Caterpillar Foundation’s contribution of $2 million to run a centralised kitchen in Lucknow that will be equipped to provide mid-day meal to 100,000 students.

The Akshaya Patra Foundation is an Indian NGO implementing the mid-day meal programme in 23 locations of India. Presently, it serves 1.4 million children across more than 10,600 Government schools. Akshaya Patra aims to reach 5 million children by 2020. Indeed a humongous task but it is achievable with your support. Know more about the Foundation at www.akshayapatra.org.
