In a recent development, Zydus Wellness Ltd. has partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation. Zydus is a global healthcare provider and Akshaya Patra is an Indian NGO providing mid-day meals to Government school children across the country. Zydus has partnered with this NGO for their 'Donate Your Calories to Help Nourish Children' campaign. They will run this campaign through their sugar substitute brand 'Sugar Free'. The campaign was launched nationally on 13 September 2014 at Mumbai. Akshay Kumar – Bollywood actor, Sanjeev Kapoor - Master Chef, Tisca Chopra - actress, along with Ganesh Nayak - ED and COO, Zydus Cadila, and Elkana Ezekiel - MD, Zydus Wellness Ltd. were present at the launch ceremony of the campaign.
This latest Akshaya Patra news brings across that the campaign by Zydus aims to highlight the contrast between two sections of people – one section who wants to shed the extra calories and the other section that constitutes millions of people in the country suffering malnutrition. Through this campaign every time a consumer of Sugar Free saves on unwanted calories, it will get converted to 'useful calories' in the form of monetary contribution to Akshaya Patra. This campaign will be promoted on every Sugar Free packet and also across advertising collaterals. The proceeds from this campaign will be utilised to provide nutritious mid-day meals to children by Akshaya Patra.
This campaign will directly impact the millions of children for many of whom the mid-day meal is the only meal for the entire day. It will aid in countering the current calorie imbalance that exists between those who are in a state of weight gain and those who are undernourished.
